Gone Too Soon?

What can you say about a sixteen year old who loved the Beatles,the Boys Scouts movement, chicken rice, Elvis, Frank Sinatra, girls, Liverpool, life, U2, people and his mother,...who left us behind?
That he was Purposeful. Intuitive. A Realist. A Hopeless romantic? Or just gone too soon...

Like a comet
Blazing 'cross the evening sky
Gone too soon

Like a rainbow
Fading in the twinkling of an eye
Gone too soon

Shiny and sparkly
And splendidly bright
Here one day
Gone one night

Like the loss of sunlight
On a cloudy afternoon
Gone too soon

Like a castle
Built upon a sandy beach
Gone too soon

Like a perfect flower
That is just beyond your reach
Gone too soon

Born to amuse
To inspire to delight
Here one day
Gone one night

Like a sunset
Dying with the rising of the moon
Gone too soon
Gone too soon

-Michael Jackson

  1. Peter, this was a great way to share your experience. am glad Jon drew his last breath in your arms, for where else would it be more appropriate? he was with those he loved and loved.
    yes, gone too soon from us physically but not gone from us in our hearts and minds, not from mine.

  2. Jonathan is a 'young man' who wants to know everything and anything about his family, his cousins and well, his aunties. He talks a lot but not with me, Jonathan and I never share any common topics on sports, music and celebrities ...he once had enough with me when I don't even know who Agelina Jolie is, that's the time we build our relationship on solid ground call 'silence'.
    Jonathan makes me realize that words are not everything, they can be destructive if misused them ...so, if you don't know what to say or when to say, silence is okay. Don't believe, ask Jonathan!!
    I love you and this I have told you many times!
    God Bless!! A. Bernie

  3. The entry, in all its simplicity, so heartfelt, so compelling, drew tears from me, a stranger who never knew Jon. He was a friend of a friend of my sister's and somehow, some way, what I learnt of him touched me in an inexplicable way. He taught me that there is indeed more to life than we know. Being so young it is easy to forget that the world does not revolve around you.
    I thank Jon for opening my eyes and mind.
    God bless you and your family, Uncle Peter. -Jacinth

  7. Peter,

    Janet told me how you had the poem "The Race" read to Jon. You MUST know that it was a good race.

    I would like to share this poem with you and your family and I believe that it could have easily come from Jon himself.

    The Final Race

    Cry your tears of sorrow,
    Then lay your tears aside;
    Don't weep for me forever,
    Nor in your sorrow hide.

    For I am more alive today,
    Than I ever was before;
    I am just one heartbeat from you,
    On the other side of the door.

    To a new life full and free;
    Because of Christ,
    I've run the race,
    And now have victory.

    So don't stand there and weep for me,
    My battle now is won;
    Pick up your helmet, sword and shield,
    You have a race to run.

  9. Hi. I am a student from the VI as well and I came for the wake that day.

    I am lost for words and do not know what to say save that Jon will live forever in you and your family's heart.

    God bless you and your family.
